Misc Information
On a visit to POW Camp CCPWE 404 - APO 562 (near Marseille) on 28th August 1945, 65 Hungarian SS men (division not known) were recorded as being interned in compound 25
Gyula Grosics
Gyula Grosics who was the Hungarian goal keeper in the 6-3 victory over England in 1953 served in ,,Hunyadi" in 1944/1945 and returned to Hungary in August 1945.
"March of the SS division Hunyadi" available on the Internet is actually Franz Lehár's "Piave-Marsch" or the "106 Regimentsmarsch" and has no connection with the 25 SS Division ,,Hunyadi"
1 This list is from a several sources and the names and dates are compiled from them. Please note that most ranks in the divisional staff had a German “shadow” to allow the Germans some command over the Hungarian divisions
2 One source lists this Regiment as being called ,,Julius Gombos”.
3There was a plan to form a Hungarian Flak Regiment from the flak units of the 25th and 26th divisions. This would have been under XVII. Waffen Army Corps der SS (Ungarische). It was to be commanded by Standartenfuhrer Eugen Brenner
4Julius Feyer is mentioned in one source but this may just be an error as he is also listed as adjutant in others.
